
SKALLANDER LIVE, sees the coming together for the first time in New Zealand of SKALLANDER’S two halves, Bevan Smith, aka signer, aspen and Mathew Mitchell.
Expatriate Mitchell, who currently resides in Hungary returns to New Zealand for the first time in six years. Mitchell has released on Leo records, and his involvement in the European Jazz scene has seen him most recently play at the 2nd MultiSonicFest Music Festival in Bucharest, as well as touring the UK and Europe along side Smith in late 2004 with America’s Ariel Pink and the Animal Collective’s Panda Bear.
SKALLANDER’s debut album THE CAMELS, co-released in May 2005 by Loop recordings and Involve records, was written and recorded across the internet with Mitchell in Hungary and Smith in Wellington using peer to peer file sharing technology. Grant Smithes (Sunday Star Times) described The CAMELS, “As deep and dark as a midnight swim in the pacific, the best release to date from Loop recordings”
Smith and Mitchell, briefly together on common soil will play one Show only Friday 28th October 9.00 pm @ Happy (corner of Vivian and Wakefield St ) Wellington. With a special full band featuring Matthew and Bevan (guitars and vocals) Andrew Thomas (piano, keyboards,) Darren Mathiassen, (drums) Jeremy Coubrough (mix and treatments) Raisza and Amy (vocals) SKALLANDER will present an evening of lyrical dub – prog rock and pop electronica .
